Ellen Loraine Murphy

Ellen Loraine Murphy, 79, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away on August 23, 2026. She was born on December 7, 1946, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to the late Erphie and Margaret Newby Godwin.
Ellen was a devout Christian whose faith remained an important part of her life. She found joy in the simple things, especially fishing and spending time with those she loved. Family was incredibly important to Ellen, and the time she shared with them created memories that will continue to be cherished for years to come.
In addition to her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Clayton Murphy Jr.; her son, Dwight A. Cobb; and her siblings, Bernard “Ben” Godwin, Robert “Bob” Godwin, Marie O’Sullivan (Godwin), Jean Minnella (Godwin), Edward Godwin, and Emily Jordan (Godwin).
She is survived by her children, Christopher N. “Chris” Cobb, Francis X. “Frank” Cobb, and Margaret E. “Beth” DeLuca (Murphy); her grandchildren, Kristen D. Tyndall (Cobb) and Arya N. DeLuca; her siblings, Patricia Baker (Godwin) and Johnny Godwin; and her nieces, Gwen Brady and Dee Asbell, along with other extended family members and friends who will continue to carry her memory with them.
Ellen will be remembered for her faith, her love for her family, and the many moments of joy she shared with those closest to her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation – Wilmington Chapel. The family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 6:00 p.m.
Burial will take place at Sandhills Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, North Carolina, on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
