Council Member Calls for Immediate Review of Recurring Flooding on Dawson and Wooster
A Wilmington City Council member raised concerns about recurring flooding on Dawson and Wooster streets following heavy rain over the weekend, and asked staff to investigate the cause as soon as possible.
The council member said there had been several reports of flooding, with residents posting photos of vehicles driving through water "as high as the undercarriage of their cars." She asked what is causing the flooding and about the capacity of the existing stormwater system, noting that many drains along the road appeared clogged with leaves, pine needles, and tree trimmings.
A city engineer said he did not have an explanation on hand but was willing to look into the matter. A staff member said he would work with operations staff to provide a response.
