Wildfire Smoke Drifting Into Wilmington Area; Burn Ban Remains in Effect

Residents in New Hanover County may notice haze and smoke in the air drifting from an active wildfire in Marion County in northeastern South Carolina. County officials said the smoke does not pose an immediate danger locally but advised that air quality will be slightly degraded while conditions persist. Individuals with respiratory conditions are encouraged to take precautions.
New Hanover County officials also reminded residents that a local burn ban remains in effect. The ban applies to all open burns in the county, including those conducted within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling.
