44th Annual Juried Spring Art Show
By George Wilmington, NC
Listen up, Wilmington. If you’ve been procrastinating on that masterpiece, the Wilmington Art Association just dropped the rules for their 44th Annual Juried Spring Art Show, and they aren't playing around. You have until February 19th at midnight to get your life together and register online. Don't even think about a late entry—the prospectus says "no exceptions," and they mean it.
You need to be a WAA member and at least 18 to play. For a $40 entry fee, you can submit original 2D art, photography, or 3D work. If you’re lucky enough to be "Invited" on February 26th, congratulations—you just signed up for a mandatory volunteer shift. Yes, you have to help out if you want a shot at that $500 first-place prize.
Now, for the "don’ts," because there are many. No nudity, no violence, and absolutely no "furniture, jewelry, or tea sets". This is a fine art show, not a kitchen remodel. Also, if your 2D piece is over 15 pounds or lacks proper braided wire and D-rings, don't bother showing up to the Hannah Block Community Arts Center on delivery day. They will turn you away at the door if your framing is "fragile" or your wire is visible.
The show runs April 4th through the 12th. If you sell something, the WAA takes a 30% cut, so price accordingly. And for the love of all things holy, pick up your unsold art by 5:30 PM on the final Sunday, or you’ll be slapped with a $50 late fee. Mark your calendars, or don't—more wall space for the rest of us.
