New Hanover County Sheriff's Office to Undergo Accreditation Assessment
The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office in Wilmington will undergo a law enforcement accreditation assessment on April 22, 2026. The evaluation will be conducted by the North Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation program, which operates under the North Carolina Department of Justice.
The assessment covers multiple areas of agency operations, including policies and procedures, administration, support services, training, facilities management, safety, and record-keeping. The process is intended to determine whether the department meets established professional standards for law enforcement agencies in the state.
Agency employees and community members may submit feedback regarding the Sheriff's Office and its adherence to NCLEA standards. Comments must be received by April 21, 2026, one day before the on-site assessment, and will be reviewed by the assessment team.
