Obituary for Dixie Diane (Gregory) Simmons

Dixie Diane Simmons, 84, passed gently from her earthly life Monday, March 16, 2026.

She was born December 30, 1941 in New Britain, Connecticut, the daughter of William Gregory and Myrtle Chavis Gregory. In addition to her parents Dixie was preceded in death by two sons, Daryl Simmons and Dean Simmons; and brother, Barton Gregory.

Dixie is survived by her son, Bobby Simmons and his wife, Michele; daughters, Christy Moore and her husband, Adam and Wendy Mossolle and her husband, Lee; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jackie Gregory and her family;  extended family members, and friends.

Edna Gaye Bailey James, 88, of Wallace, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

Edna was born on August 30, 1937, in Johnston County and was the daughter of the late Eugene Bailey and Nannie Bailey Johnson.  She was also preceded in death by her husband Durwood James, grandson Donnie Grady, stepfather Oscar Johnson and stepson Ernie James.

She is survived by her sons Gene Grady and  Donald Grady (Veronica), daughter Dianne Jones (George), stepdaughter Ann Tripp; brother Ken Bailey (Kay), sisters Ruth Tate and Barbara Jorgensen (Steve); grandchildren – Johnny Grady, Shaun Grady, Tiffany Grady, Brian Grady (Lauren), Brad Jones (Rachel) and Ryan Jones (Nola); great grandchildren Jayden, Kadence, Brantley, Sasha, Evander and Coleson.

Edna or Gaye, as she was both called, was such a sweet, loving and caring soul. She was a hard worker and was employed for many years in the textile industry.  Edna and her husband Durwood loved Christmas. Their yard was elaborately decorated every year, showcasing an impressive display of lights. This was always truly breathtaking! She enjoyed flowers and watching her hummingbirds. She also loved having family over and cooking her delicious meals. Edna will surely be missed but treasured memories of her will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with Pastor David Walker officiating.

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace on Thursday, March 19th.

Burial service will follow at James Cemetery on Lightwood Bridge Road, Wallace, NC.
