Wilmington saw a dramatic surge in traffic accidents this past week, with the daily average jumping to 12.1 incidents — an 83% increase over the prior week's average of 6.6. The week included a particularly dangerous Tuesday with 22 reported accidents, approaching the all-time daily record of 24.

Back-to-back days of 13 accidents on February 13 and 14 suggest sustained dangerous conditions rather than isolated incidents. The all-time average is 9.5 per day, meaning this week ran nearly 30% above normal.

Death Investigations

Death investigations and homicide cases also saw a concerning uptick, with the weekly average rising to 0.7 per day — a 133% increase over the prior week. Three incidents were recorded across February 13-15, including two days with two cases each. While the numbers remain small, the concentration is notable.
